National Blood Transfusion Committee (NBTC) Patient Involvement Working Group
This group has been established to promote patient and public involvement in Blood Transfusion. The remit of the groups includes:-
Review current sources of patient information and identify need for improvement (including patient leaflets and internet sites); review current systems for dissemination of patient information
Identify opportunities and appropriate strategies for the feedback of patient concerns and experiences in relation to blood transfusion.
Collaborate with the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) in promoting patient involvement with a view to improving safety. Collaborate with Department of Health in any strategies aimed at engaging patients.
Co-ordinate further National Awareness initiatives in collaboration with Regional Transfusion Committees, Hospital Transfusion Committees/Hospital Transfusion Teams and community groups.
Promote audit and research in methods and outcomes in patient involvement strategies
The group has contributed to the development of patient information on transfusion for the Department of Health NHS Choices website. The group will also be promoting transfusion awareness for patients and the public at several events. See our 'Diary of events' for further information on such events.
